Controlling Habits
There are many common habits that people have.
If a habit causes you
stress or concern hypnotherapy can help you deal with it effectively.
"I wish I could stop that habit"
I'm sure you have heard that expression many times, maybe even used it yourself. There are many habits that people find very difficult to quit.
Examples of habits that can be helped or eradicated by hypnotherapy include...
> Nail Biting
> Hair pulling and twirling
> "Nervous" coughing
> Picking or scratching skin
> "Nervous" laughter
> Twitches
> Involuntary Sniffing
> Smoking
And many more...
Many regard smoking as a habit they want to get rid of, and indeed a large part of smoking is habitual. See HERE
Just exactly what is a habit?
A habit is nothing more than a skill by another name. The sub-conscious is "trained" over a period of time to perform a new activity and very soon it does it automatically. If you drive, try and remember back to when you had your first driving lesson. You were doing many things at once, all new, changing gear being an important one. Within a short period of time gear changing became second nature, because your brain had learned the new skill.
How does Hypnotherapy help you stop a habit?
You may bite your nails for instance, perhaps to release
tension or a stressful moment. Your subconscious associates stress
with this activity because you have repeated that activity in the past
in response to stress. The sub-conscious in this situation automatically
recognises stress and immediately carries out the associated action.
Break Free!
To overcome this habit the hypnotherapist may use suggestion therapy
and will teach your sub-conscious a new activity in response to the
nail biting "trigger". Once the sub-conscious accepts this
new activity, and the new substituted activity is reinforced by a
little practice, then the old associated response simply ceases to
exist. Sometimes one session is enough to complete the transformation.
For more deep rooted habits the therapist will normally use hypno-analysis to determine the original cause, then work with your subconscious mind to to resolve the problem, leaving you free from the habit.
